Water Safety & Swimming Education

The program is to teach participants water safety and swimming skills in order to create safe behaviors and confidence around water.

​

Entry Requirements
  • Participants must be a minimum of 12 years of age.

  • Swimming abilities is non compulsory

​

General Information

The duration of the course is approximately 7.5 hours, consisting of pool and beach practical activities.

​

Learning Outcomes
  • Safe entry and exit on the pool

  • Proper sculling and body orientation

  • Proper movement in water and swimming strokes

  • Proper survival swimming skills

  • Correct underwater skills

  • Correct rescue skills

  • Knowledge on water safety

  • Wave an arm to demonstrate a signal for assistance.

  • Identifying and Handling Rip Currents and waves

  • Identifying Emergency Numbers.

Water Safety (Online Course)

From University Putra Malaysia with using the Open Learning Online platform, This course will help the participant in terms of how to stay safe when participating in water-related activities and what to respond in aquatic emergencies, via the Open Learning platform online.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • identify simple hazards surrounding water bodies when doing water activities

  • suggest safety features of water facilities in and near water bodies

  • recognize dangerous living things in water

  • identify and discuss the various tips to be safe near body of water

  • organize and manage personal or group safety excursions near water

  • recognize the safety measures when dealing with water transport

  • understand your rights when dealing with water recreation operators and facilities

  • discuss various actions to be considered when an emergency occurs in water

  • decide suitable rescue techniques for different situations

General Information

There are four modules in this course. Each participant will go through each of the modules and start your learning at your own pace.

  • Module 1 Water Safety 101. Learners will learn about facts related to water safety, various types of water bodies of water and dangerous livings in water

  • Module 2 Staying Safe Near Water. Learners will learn waterman ship skills, do's and don'ts near water and tips to stay safe near water

  • Module 3 Rights to Water Safety. Learners will learn their rights when they are onboarding watercraft and while participating in water recreation

  • Module 4 Be Skillful. Learners will learn various practical life-saving techniques and how to respond appropriately in aquatic emergency

Lifesaver Junior

A Junior Lifesaver is a person with the basic training required for the assistance in saving of life in the water.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and beach awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following physical attributes;

  • 12 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • have completed a 200 metre swim in maximum of ten (10) minutes

  • Able to swim 15m to a patient, after 7m, dive 2m deep and pick up 1 object, drop the object and continue to swim to patient, carry the patient over 15m. Stimulate rescue scenario

  • 1st aid training from a recognized institution. Provide certificate

Learning Outcomes
  • Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the courses

  • Perform water-based skills in a pool environment

  • Demonstrate the ability to swim underwater

  • Demonstrate land-based skills. Demonstrate the use of land-based rescue simulation skills

  • Demonstrate combined rescue without equipment.

  • Perform emergency response techniques including basic resuscitation and first aid techniques

  • Demonstrate emergency aid techniques including basic first aid and resuscitation

General Information
  • 2 day with classroom (Theory), Pool session and assessment of competency through verbal and written examination

Lifesaver

A Lifesaver is a person with the basic training required for the assistance in saving of life in the water.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and beach awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following physical attributes;

  • 14 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Have completed a 300 meter swim in less than eight (8) minutes

  • Able to dive and swim a minimum of 25m underwater without breaking the surface

  • 1st aid training with CPR and AED from a recognized institution. Provide certificate

General Content

Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the courses

  • Perform water-based skills in a pool environment

  • Demonstrate the ability to swim underwater

  • Demonstrate land-based skills. Demonstrate the use of land-based rescue simulation skills

  • Demonstrate combined rescue without equipment.

  • Demonstrate combined rescue technique of at least two (2) pieces of Beach Bunch- approved lifesaving equipment items used in rescue.Understand and explain the purpose and use

  • Perform emergency response techniques including basic resuscitation and first aid techniques

2 days with classroom (Theory) and Pool session training. Assessment of competency through written examination, oral questioning, observations and simulated rescue scenarios.

Lifesaver Instructor

An Lifesaver Instructor is the person instructing participants in the specific requirements of the Lifesaver Certificate.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to deliver training programs of the Lifesaver Certificate.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following attributes;

  • 18 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Valid and current member of Beach Bunch

  • Possess a valid and current certificate of Lifesaver

​

Learning Outcomes

Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the course

  • Knowledge of the methodology and didactics about water lifesaving education as per the accreditation guidelines.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction of anatomy, physiology and resuscitation of a person.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction of swimming and lifesaving techniques.

  • Understand and explain the correct handling of resuscitation and lifesaving equipment.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction in the organisation of rescue operations

General Information

2 days with classroom (Theory)
Assessment of competency through oral questioning, presentation of a written thesis about water lifesaving and oral defense of the thesis

Lifeguard Pool

A Pool Lifeguard is a person who will be regularly assigned to protect life and safety at a pool. 

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge of advanced  lifesaving operations at the pool.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following physical attributes;

  • 18 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Have completed a 400 meter swim in less than eight (8) minutes

  • Swim 10m under water, retrieve three (3) objects placed 5m apart in the deepest end of the pool).

  • A valid and current 1st aid training with CPR and AED from a recognized institution. Provide certificate

​

Learning Outcomes

Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the course

  • Perform water-based fitness skills in a pool environment.

  • Demonstrate the ability to swim underwater

  • Demonstrate land-based skills. Demonstrate the use of land-based rescue simulation skills

  • Demonstrate combined rescue without equipment

  • Perform emergency response techniques including basic resuscitation and first aid techniques

  • Document medical knowledge about a range of conditions associated with rescues.

  • Choose and plan strategies to manage basic emergencies

  • Identify and describe issues related to the facility/workplace.

2 days with classroom (Theory) and Pool session training. Assessment of competency through written examination, oral questioning, observations and simulated rescue scenarios.

Lifeguard Instructor Pool

An  Pool Lifeguard Instructor is the person instructing participants in the specific requirements of the Pool Lifeguard Certificate.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to deliver training programs of the Pool Lifeguard Certificate.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following attributes;

  • 18 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Valid and current member of Beach Bunch

  • Possess a valid and current certificate of Pool Lifeguard

​

Learning Outcomes

Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the course

  • Knowledge of the methodology and didactics about water lifesaving education as per the accreditation guidelines.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction of anatomy, physiology and resuscitation of a person.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction of swimming and lifesaving techniques.

  • Understand and explain the correct handling of resuscitation and lifesaving equipment.

  • Demonstrate the delivery of a programme of instruction in the organisation of rescue operations

Lifeguard Beach

A Beach Lifeguard is a person who will be regularly assigned to protect life and provide safety cover in the sea & ocean.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and beach awareness in order to participate in lifesaving operations.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following physical attributes;

  • 18 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Have completed a 400 meter swim in less than eight (8) minutes

  • Have completed a run-swim-run (Run 200m, swim 200m and run 200m) in less than eight (8) minutes

  • Able to surface dive and swim 25m underwater

  • 1st aid training with CPR and AED from a recognized institution. Provide certificate

​

Learning Outcomes

Candidates will be taught the following sections throughout the course

  • Perform water-based fitness skills in a pool and open water environment.

  • Demonstrate the ability to swim underwater

  • Demonstrate land-based skills. Demonstrate the use of land-based rescue simulation skills

  • Demonstrate combined rescue without equipment

  • Demonstrate combined rescue technique

  • Understand and explain the purpose and use of at least two (2) pieces of Beach Bunch-approved lifesaving equipment items used in rescue.

  • Perform emergency response techniques including basic resuscitation and first aid techniques

  • Choose and plan strategies to manage basic emergencies

  • Identify and describe issues related to the facility/workplace.

3 days with classroom (Theory), Pool session, and Open water training. Assessment of competency through written examination, oral questioning, observations and simulated rescue scenarios.

Lifeguard Instructor Beach

​An  Beach Lifeguard Instructor is the person instructing participants in the specific requirements of the Beach Lifeguard Certificate.

​

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to deliver training programs of the Beach Lifeguard Certificate.

​

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have the following attributes;

  • 18 years old and over at the time of assessment

  • Valid and current member of Beach Bunch

  • Possess a valid and current certificate of Beach Lifeguard
